A place to Share Songs that Inspire Me.

I am a lyric person, so I would also like to share a few choice lyrics…sometimes

Kiss You (When It’s Dangerous)-Eight Seconds (My longest loved)

Kiss you when it's dangerous, I'll kiss you then and only then, I'll kiss you when it's dangerous, I'll kiss you once, but never again...

The passion of the unexpected kiss that happens only once, and takes a lifetime to forget.

K-K-K-Katy, beautiful Katy,
You’re the only g-g-g-girl that I adore;
When the m-m-m-moon shines,
Over the c-c-c-cowshed,
I’ll be waiting at the k-k-k-kitchen door.

O.k., I admit it- I was looking through my gran’s journal and thinking about the First World War-but in my defense, my grandfather would sing this song often (he was monotone and off key- but I loved him for every agonizing note!!!).  I now sing this to my daughter- may history live on!!!! ( and hopefully I am better at the tune!)

Donald Where’s Your Trousers?

Let the wind blow high and the wind blow low
Through the streets in my kilt I go
All the lassies cry, “Hello!
Donald, where’s your trousers?”

I’m on a nostalgia kick!  Again, this is one that was sung by my mother.  For the fear of dating myself, I also listened to it on a record..when I was really…really young….I’ll have to find it in the basement!

My father, being a good Yorkshire-man didn’t join in…but he tapped his toes (denial):-).

My daughter and I sing it shamelessly in the car- if you have never belted out a Celtic song (God bless the Irish Rovers), you haven’t lived!!!!

Diary of Jane-Breaking Benjamin

Something’s getting in the way.
Something’s just about to break.
I will try to find my place in the diary of Jane.
As I burn another page,
As I look the other way.
I still try to find my place in the diary of Jane.

I love the passion in the music of this song- and then the lyrics: confrontational, aggressive, raw and hungry.  Trying to understanding a woman through looking into her private words- and possibly not liking what is found.

I Burn for You-Sting

You and I are lovers
When night time folds around our bed
In peace we sleep entwined
And your love flows through me
Though an ocean soothes my head
I burn for you,

I first heard this song in the movie “Brimstone and Treacle,” featuring a young and handsome Sting.  The movie was troubling- but the song was lingering.  I envision a couple like Romeo and Juliet- they can’t get enough of each other- even close is too far away.

Out of the Dark- Falco

Ich krieg von dir niemals genug (I can never get enough of you)
Du bist in jedem Atemzug (You are in each breath)
Alles dreht sich nur um dich (Everything revolves around you)
Warum ausgerechnet ich? (Why me of all people?)
Zähl die Stunden, die Sekunden (Count the hours, the seconds)
Doch die Zeit scheint still zu steh’n (But time seems to stand still)
Hab mich geschunden, gewunden (I’ve slaved away, tried to find my way out)
Laß mich gehen – was willst Du noch? (Leave me be!What else do you want)
Willst Du meine Tage zählen? (, you want my days numbered)
Warum mußt Du mich mit meiner Sehnsucht quälen? (Why must you torment me with my longing?)
Deine Hölle brennt in mir (Your hell burns in me)
Du bist mein Überlebensexlixier (You are my life-elixir)
Ich bin zerrissen (I am torn)
Wann kommst Du meine Wunden küssen? (When will you come to kiss my wounds)
Out of the dark
Hörst Du die Stimme, die dir sagt (do you hear the voice that says to you)
Into the light
I give up and close my eyes
Out of the dark

Since I first heard of Falco, I have always loved his music- the trailblazer for Rammstein.  He is certainly a “Global Singer”- in that his music is a combination of German and English- appealing to both.  I only found “Out of the Dark,” within the last year-AMAZING.  How can you not love a song that includes the word “Überlebensexlixier?”  I dare you to say that to your sweetheart- “Du bist mein Überlebensexlixier.” Garanteed to sweep them off of their feet.

Running Up That Hill- Kate Bush

And if I only could,
I’d make a deal with God,
And I’d get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building.
Say, If I only could, oh…

You don’t want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware, I’m tearing you asunder.
Ooh, There is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the ones who love?

I heard this in high school- my friend had it playing (we were in class at the time) and asked me if I wanted to listen.  As soon as I heard it, I knew I was in love-totally. Lyrics and voice combine for nothing short of ecstasy. I love Kate Bush!

It is a song of a turbulent parting.  You have hurt me!  How can you not feel my pain!  How can you recover so easily when it is so hard for me- let’s face it, we’ve all been there!

Wise Up Sucker- Pop Will Eat Itself

You say it’s love that you need,
But it’s war that you’ve got…
That you want to live your life and “to have”
Not “to have not,”
Better wise up and face my lot;
She loves me not

I love the style of this song- not being a music aficionado I will simply say it is raw.   It is the musical equivalent of the feeling of confusion.

Pick up the Phone- Dragonette

Come on Cherry, Cherry
Your still very young
And we only just started having fun
I’m picking through and I choose you, you’re so cool
No need to save yourself for someone else to come

A fun-up beat song.  I always thought she said, “I’m picking fruit and I choose you….”  Don’t ask me why.  Possibly I thought it was a reference to taking someones ‘cherry’ or virginity.  It certainly sounds like she is falling for someone else who is inexperienced.

Black-Type O Negative

Little wolf skin boots
And clove cigarettes.
An erotic funeral
For witch she’s dressed.

Her perfume smells like
Burning leaves.
Everyday is Halloween.

Ok.  There is no logic for my love of this group- but I like some of their music.  Possibly the earlier, more Gothic music from “Bloody Kisses.”

Tokyo Rose-Idle  Eyes

Where are you? What are you waiting for?
This is not a race
Are you trying to spend my time, spend time
You in the corner, come closer
I can see your face
I can see it in mine
Oh I see it in mine
You tell a story like Tokyo Rose
I got the picture from the stains on your clothes
Didn’t they tell you ’bout the shape I’m in?
In this condition of carnal sin

Sounds like a passionate chance encounter!

Lovers in a Dangerous Time- Bruce Cockburn

These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This vibrant skin — this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
When you’re lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time

Limited to the human, but striving for the otherworldly….
