During World War One, Canadian troops were trained at Valcartier (I found some of the pictures of this training camp in my gran’s photographs, and have posted some of them on this site). After their training, the Canadian troops were transported to Britain, and specifically Salisbury Plain to start a four month training program in England.
My great grandfather was a Colonel in World War One. His family followed him on his journey. I have just found a journal that my grandfather wrote of his experience in Britain as a young lad.
My gran’s brother also went over to serve. My gran transcribed a lot of his letters into her journal- I’ve read a couple of excepts- very interesting indeed. I will share as time permits.
